Starting with the Certificate I in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal) at St Patrick’s College, Oliver went on to complete the Master 24, MED2 at AMC.

Now, he's enrolled in the Certificate III Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating), and has picked up the coveted trainee position, showcasing the program's success in guiding students towards maritime careers.

“We are thrilled to see Oliver’s hard work and dedication pay off,” said Malcolm Wise, Principal of AMC.

“His success highlights how our VET program prepares students for real-world maritime opportunities.”

Strait Link ship manager Adam Manders praised Oliver’s qualifications and enthusiasm.

“Oliver’s commitment to a maritime career made him an outstanding candidate. We’re excited to support him as he advances,” Mr Manders said.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs are designed to provide students with practical skills and knowledge tailored to specific industries. These programs combine classroom learning with hands-on experience, preparing students for direct entry into the workforce.

“The VET program at AMC really set me on the right track,” Oliver said.

"I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but this has completely changed where I'm heading. The training and support have been amazing, and I’m looking forward to starting this next chapter.”

Malcolm Wise emphasised the broader impact of the program.

“This program is about more than just career opportunities; it’s about nurturing the next generation of maritime professionals, right here in Tasmania” he said.

Adam Manders added, “AMC has been an excellent training centre for our staff, and we’re grateful for their continued support in upskilling our workforce.”
