This means you can pursue career aspirations and follow a passion at the same time, combine complementary areas of study to set yourself apart as a graduate, or achieve a combination of qualifications that will save you time and tuition fees in the pursuit of your future career.
- Stand out as a graduate by integrating areas of study to differentiate yourself in the job market.
- Save time and tuition fees through achieving a combination of qualifications more efficiently.
- Opportunity to engage with two different academic areas, exposing you to a wider range of perspectives and opportunities.
Types of double degree
Our double degrees come in two formats:
- Completing two undergraduate degrees. For example, a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws.
- Completing a bachelor's degree and a postgraduate degree. For example, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Teaching, or a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and a Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood. These are sometimes called 'vertical doubles'.
In both cases, you can graduate up to two years faster than if you pursued each course individually. You can read more about how double degrees work in our frequently asked questions.
Note - there are two combined degrees, which means you'll receive the one testamur. These are the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine.
Why study a double degree?
Studying double degrees can significantly deepen your knowledge in multiple fields, offering a unique blend of skills and perspectives. By pursuing two areas of study, you not only enhance your expertise but also cultivate critical thinking and adaptability, which are essential in diverse career paths. Combining a degree in arts with one in law can prepare you for roles in non-traditional careers, where understanding both legal and liberal arts factors are crucial. For careers where a postgraduate qualification is needed to enter the industry, such as secondary school teaching, you can get there faster by studying the undergraduate and postgraduate courses as a double degree. Your combined degrees equip you with critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills, making you valuable in various sectors, including government, non-profits and private industry. Additionally, double degrees often provide networking opportunities across disciplines, enriching your academic experience and expanding your professional connections. Ultimately, this approach not only broadens your knowledge base but also makes you a more competitive candidate in the job market.
