Governance and leadership

The University Council, led by the Chancellor, is the governing body of the University. It has responsibility for the overall strategy, budget, well-being and sound operation of the University.

The Council appoints the Vice-Chancellor to provide the executive leadership of the University in accordance with the strategy, budget, risk appetite and delegated authority it approves for the running of the University.

The University of Tasmania is governed by the University Council, chaired by the Chancellor, and assisted by its committees, including Academic Senate.

Vice-Chancellor and University Executive Team

Professor Rufus Black is the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Tasmania. Working with the University Executive Team, he oversees the University’s strategy, the delivery of its teaching and research, and the management of its operations.
