About the program

The Australian Maritime College is offering a free in-class interactive session, 'Why Study Maths - Applying Maths in Maritime Engineering' for Years 10, 11 and 12 classes across Tasmania. The session is delivered in school by visiting educators from the Australian Maritime College, and can be tailored to the length of your class (eg. 50 - 90 mins).

The program is designed to link the Mathematics content to real world situations, including:

  • Probability - Wind Farm Feasibility Study
  • Trigonometry - Wave Refraction
  • Differentiation - Vessel Speed in Waves
  • Superposition - Ocean Waves
  • Algebra - Scaling Laws
  • Curve Fitting - Vessel Design
  • Integration - Ship Hydrostatics

The content is scalable and appropriate for year 10 Mathematics classes, and year 11 or 12 General, Methods and Specialist Mathematics classes.

This free session is available now for high schools and Colleges across Tasmania.
