About the research project
This project is part of the University of Tasmania's new Outdoor and Environmental Education program. The candidate will join a team of active researchers focused on understanding the impacts of place-responsive and relational pedagogies on school engagement, health and well-being, and responses to climate change. This PhD project will contribute to the School of Education's broader focus of positively impacting the wellbeing and educational attainment of all Tasmanians and the University of Tasmania's vision for a place-based University.
Ecological precarity has led to the emergence of various educational approaches, including eco-pedagogies, post-human thinking, wild pedagogies, and relational engagements in a more-than-human world. This PhD project seeks to provide possibilities for strengthening this growing body of work in ways that positively engage and contribute to health and wellbeing of students, particularly in a Tasmanian context.
Applications from a range of disciplinary perspectives are welcome provided they engage with the development, impacts, and/or experiences of relational pedagogies in education. The research approach will be developed by the team and the candidate depending on the applicant's background and interests.
Example topics include:
*Wilding pedagogies: Children, place, and climate change education.
*Socio-ecological justice and outdoor environmental education
*Exploring the impacts of health, wellbeing, and natural environments
Other suggestions are very welcome, within the scope of the description provided above.
