About this course

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving for the Workplace is a short course designed to develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills in preparation for entering an English-speaking workplace. The course aims to develop your capacity to identify and respond to issues and problems in ways that are valued in the global workplace. Throughout this course, strong emphasis is placed on English language proficiency, particularly speaking skills.

This 20-hour course runs over ten weeks (2 hours per week) and classes are synchronously timetabled. You will be actively engaged in activities on a wide range of topics, and you will receive personalised feedback on your participation in these activities. Activities in this course include:

  • Mock workplace meeting
  • Dialogue-building activities
  • Text analyses
  • Group research, discussion and analyses

What you will learn

You'll take part in a variety of activities to strengthen your critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence. These include:

  • Reading and listening to gather and analyse information to support your decisions and conclusions
  • Practicing spoken communication using different critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
  • Expanding your vocabulary with words and phrases related to critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Working in groups to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a collaborative setting
