HDR priority topics and opportunities

CSAW supports HDRs committed to research into sustainable building solutions and innovative, timber-rich solutions for a low-carbon future.

CSAW’s priority HDR topic areas align with our research areas, and focus on:

  • Regenerative, healthy, and durable buildings.
  • Plantation hardwoods as a resource for the built environment.
  • Structural performance of engineered wood products (EWPs).

CSAW postgraduate study is often aligned with industry; with experimental work conducted in industry facilities or with industry participation.

Currently advertised projects include:

  • Mass timber from plantation Blue Gum
This project is part of a program that seek to characterise solid and engineered wood products (EWPs) recovered from Australia's plantation E. globulus resource for the Australian building construction sector.
  • Plywood from plantation Blue Gum
This project is part of a program that seeks to characterise solid and engineered wood products (EWPs) recovered from Australia’s plantation E. globulus resource for the Australian building construction sector.
  • Towards Net Zero: Thermal, hygrothermal
This project involves innovative thermal and hygrothermal research on the performance of timber and wood products in building envelope systems. It aims to provided technical guidance for Australian regulatory and policy development.
