What are the study abroad & exchange deadlines?
Semester 1 (beginning February): You will need to apply before 1 October
Semester 2 (beginning July): You will need to apply before 28 February
The University of Tasmania accepts students all year round. Applying before the deadlines listed above will give you time to secure your visa, flights, and accommodation.
Completed applications generally receive an outcome within 2 weeks of applying.
Due to recent changes, student visas may take up to 16 weeks to be processed. It is therefore imperative that students apply for their program and visa as early as possible.
What documents must I submit with my application?
- A scanned copy of your academic transcript
- A scanned copy of your passport photo page
- English language proficiency test (if applicable)
Can I study at The University of Tasmania if I am not proficient in English?
Yes, however students will need to undertake our English Access Program if you do NOT meet the English language requirement for the program you are seeking entry. Students can undertake studies through our English Language Centre until you meet the English language requirement for your degree program.

What is the tuition fee for me?
If you are an exchange student, you continue paying tuition fees to your home university.

When do I pay my tuition and what are the rules for refunds?
You will be prompted to pay your tuition fees once you have accepted your official offer letter from the University of Tasmania. Please review your offer letter for to enrolment, payment deadlines, and refund policies.
Do all of my documents need to be translated into English?
Yes. All documents must be professionally translated.
Can I take ESL classes at the University of Tasmania?
Yes, we offer both full-time and part-time ESL Programs.

Are you on a semester or trimester system?
The University of Tasmania is on a semester system.
- Semester 1 is from February to June;
- Semester 2 is from July to November.
Do I have to choose a major when I apply?
No. You do not need to choose a major, inbound students are welcome to study a range of units from multiple disciplines.
When can I enrol in classes?
The Learning Abroad Office will enrol you in your classes before you arrive on campus.
What is the average class size at the University of Tasmania?
The average tutorial (classroom setting) has a quota of 21 students.
How many students attend the University of Tasmania?
Approximately 50,000 students and 5,400 international students study with University of Tasmania.
Can I live on campus?
Yes. The campus offers a variety of places to live and eat. Students must complete a housing application and pay the required application fee to live on-campus.

Yes, we have more than 100 student clubs and societies! There are cultural, sports, and academic based clubs.
