Our team and partners

The TPE aims to enable University of Tasmania graduate students and staff to apply their expertise to policy challenges facing Tasmania. As part of the TPE model, we have an internship program whereby recent graduates and current PhD students can apply their research skills to addressing significant issues while gaining invaluable policy and professional experience. All of our past and current Interns have been highly valued and made fantastic contributions of our policy interns to the TPE program Our previous Interns are:

• Madeleine Archer. Maddy graduated with from a science/law degree in 2020, with first class honours in law, from the University of Tasmania in 2020 and made a major contribution to the TPE's review of Tasmania's proposed voluntary assisted dying legislation between December 2020 and February 2021. Maddy is now enrolled in a PhD at QUT.
• Samantha Climes. Sam is a University of Tasmania Law student, Secretary (2021) and President (2022) of the University of Tasmania Student Environment and Animal Law Society. She is the 2023 Tasmanian Rhodes Scholar.
• Oliver Gales. Ollie graduated with first class honours in Agricultural Science from the University of Tasmania in 2019 and was the 2020 Tasmanian Rhodes Scholar. Between February and September 2020 Ollie made a major contribution to the TPE's COVID and energy policy projects. He went on to attend Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and now works in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water in Canberra.
• Hollie Jackson. Hollie graduated from an arts/law degree, with first class honours in law, in 2020 and made a major contribution to the TPE's review of Tasmania's proposed voluntary assisted dying legislation between December 2020 and February 2021.
• Lachlan Johnson. Lachie was an intern in the TPE Feb 2020 – March 2021 while completing his PhD. Lachie has now completed his PHD and is working in the TPE as a Research Fellow.
• Hannah Lawrence. Hannah is a University of Tasmania Law student and President of the University of Tasmania Student Environment and Animal Law Society (2021).
• Frieda Moran. Frieda graduated with a PhD on a social history of food safety in Australia in 2023. Frieda now works as a Research Fellow in the TPE.
• Megan Langridge. Meg graduated with first Class Honours in Sociology in 2022. Meg now works in the TPE as a Research Associate.

The TPE seeks to draw on expertise across the University to make a timely and informed contribution to policy making in Tasmania. Since February 2020 approximately 45 University of Tasmania staff have contributed to the TPE's policy engagement and analysis work.
