This course is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.
Become an ethical communicator
Contemporary social workers need contemporary skills to respond meaningfully to social problems. Our Master of Social Work (Qualifying) has been redesigned after direct industry feedback to reflect current and emerging practice trends in the profession.
The new curriculum will equip you with advanced knowledge of social work research principles and methods, and includes 1,000 hours of supervised professional field education placement.
We'll give you knowledge and skills to become a creative and ethical communicator, able to respond to social justice and human rights challenges in ways that are culturally sensitive, principled, and effective. You will be able to respectfully use your knowledge to meet the needs of diverse social work client groups, communities and organisations.
New pathway course to help with IELTS requirements
The Graduate Certificate in Social Care (International Pathway) has been created to help you meet the IELTS requirement for the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) while still allowing you to complete the Master degree in two years.
The Graduate Certificate is composed of the first semester of the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), and successful completion enables advanced standing into the Masters course. In addition to core studies in social work, you will receive bespoke English language support to assist you in developing your academic and communication skills that supports you to achieve the required IELTS score to be eligible for entry into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

Your pathway to the study of Social Work
This course is designed as a pathway for international students who want to study the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), and need support to meet the IELTS requirements of that degree.
You will study four units which make up the first semester of the Master degree, enabling you to enter with advanced standing and not delay your path to becoming an accredited social worker.
In addition, receive bespoke English language support to assist you in developing the academic and communication skills you need to achieve the required IELTS score for entry into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

Your introduction to the study of Social Work
This course introduces you to a range of topics including mental health, the impact of chronic health conditions on quality of life, mental health first aid, and applied counselling skills. Your studies will focus on adopting healthy thoughts and behaviours as part of a self-care approach, introducing you to a range of skills to manage stress and enhancing well-being of yourself and others through lifestyle, mindfulness and positive psychology.
Through applied learning activities and face-to face-classes, you will explore foundational concepts of research methods, research design and research ethics that will help you interpret and critically evaluate health research. You will graduate with practical skills that are transferable to many of today’s workplaces such as counsellor roles and community service roles. You’ll also develop a solid foundation for further study in counselling and psychology.

Now is great time to study Social Work, with demand for social workers forecast to increase by 23% by 2026*, from 40,000 to almost 50,000 positons!
