Your future starts here
Applying to study with us is simple. Find out more about what you might need to prepare before you start your application.
Step 1: Find a course
You can apply for up to five courses at once. Unlike other states, there is no charge to apply as a domestic student to the University of Tasmania.
Find out more about applying through the Schools Recommendation Program.
Step 2: Keep your options open
Once you've selected the course you most want to study, don't forget that you can increase your chances of success by applying to other degrees that interest you.
In fact, you can select up to five preferences. If you’re applying for a course but are unsure if you’ll be successful, please contact our student advisers on 13 8827 (13 UTAS) or by emailing us at course.info@utas.edu.au.
Step 3: Check the dates
Before you apply, it’s important that you check the key admission dates. These will tell you when applications open, when semesters begin, and more.
Step 4: Make sure you meet the entry requirements
To be considered for entry into our courses, you need to meet specific requirements. You can check these entry requirements tab in your course page for more details.
You also need to either have completed Australian Year 12 (or equivalent), or be aged 17 or older and be applying on the basis of your previous study or work experience.
For most of our courses, entry is based on your ATAR score or your rank, which is calculated based on your qualifications and experience. If you’re unsure whether you meet the entry requirements, or if you are uncertain about your ATAR or rank, please contact our Information Centre.
Some courses have other entry requirements, like auditions, interviews, portfolios or questionnaires. Make sure you check your course information for application requirements and closing dates.
Step 5: Apply for a scholarship
You don't need to be academically gifted to receive financial support for your study. We offer one of the most extensive range of scholarships in Australia, and we encourage everyone to apply.
Step 6: Accept your offer
Once your application has been assessed, we’ll notify you as to whether you’ve have been accepted. If you are accepted, simply follow the instructions in the offer letter to secure your place at university.
If you don’t receive an offer, you can contact our Information Centre for advice on alternative options for study.
Step 7: Check if you're eligible for recognition for prior learning
You may be able to have your past studies or work experience count as credit towards your course. That means you won't have to complete all of the units listed in your course structure and you may be able to graduate sooner.
You need to apply separately for credit for prior learning (advanced standing), so make sure you check the application requirements and closing dates.
