Exercise Scientists are professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills to apply the science behind exercise. They develop interventions that improve health and fitness, wellbeing, and performance, as well as assisting in the prevention of injury and chronic conditions.

You'll apply an evidence-based approach to promote health, wellbeing, fitness and performance. From those with clinical conditions, to elite athletes, you'll develop the knowledge and skills required to provide high quality health care to the local community and beyond.

To fully prepare you for your future career, you will undertake 140 hours of professional placement, benefiting from the breadth of connections we have with sport and community groups, Tasmanian peak sporting bodies, and the healthcare sector. This allows you to pursue practical and placement opportunities aligned to your interests.

Further study options

This course can lead to postgraduate study in many Allied Health fields including Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. You can study the full pathway to becoming a physiotherapist with our Master of Physiotherapy.

You’ll graduate ready to undertake an exciting career in the health sector. Your career could see you working alongside professional athletes and providing training and development programs, or delivering health and wellbeing initiatives within the community. You can also move into postgraduate studies in exercise physiology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to gain accreditation as exercise scientists with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

Completing your second year of study will enable you to register as an Exercise Professional through AUSActive. This enables you to work in the health, exercise, and fitness industry prior to graduation as a personal trainer or gym instructor. This hands-on experience will allow you to develop your skills as an exercise professional, improve your confidence and enhance future job prospects within the health sector.
