Roll of Excellence

Recognition is awarded to students who attain the highest level of excellence in their academic studies across their course.

Roll of Excellence 2024

The Roll highlights the top individual graduates with a GPA of 6.25 or higher out of a possible 7. The Roll of Excellence is calculated three times per year: April, August and December.

The Acting Executive Dean of the College of Arts, Law and Education, Anthony Koutoulis, extends congratulations to all our students who are admitted to the University of Tasmania Roll of Excellence by achieving outstanding academic results.

The Executive Dean of the College of Business and Economics, Stuart Crispin, extends congratulations to all our students who are admitted to the University of Tasmania Roll of Excellence by achieving outstanding academic results.

The Executive Dean of the College of Health and Medicine, Denise Fassett, extends congratulations to all our students who are admitted to the University of Tasmania Roll of Excellence by achieving outstanding academic results.

The Acting Executive Dean of the College of Sciences and Engineering, Angela Castles, extends congratulations to all our students who are admitted to the University of Tasmania Roll of Excellence by achieving outstanding academic results.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for inclusion on the University of Tasmania Roll of Excellence, a student must:

  • be graduating from a coursework qualification at AQF5 or higher, *
  • achieve a 6.25 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher in their course,
  • complete a minimum of 100 credit points within their course (excludes Credit for prior learning), with the exception of:
    • As at the 1st July 2024, Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas, Master's Degrees courses that require the completion of a minimum of 50 credit points (including nested awards**),
  • eligible candidates will be excluded from consideration if an intermediate or high-level breach of academic integrity requirements has been substantiated, or if the student has engaged in behaviour contrary to the Student Behaviour and Conduct Ordinance
  • a student’s eligibility is subject to the discretion of the Executive Dean of the College.
  • the College reserves a right to remove a student from the Roll of Excellence if the student was placed on the Roll of Excellence through administrative error or if the student has been found guilty of academic misconduct during their course.

Double degree students may be placed on the Roll of Excellence for both Colleges.

Calculation of Grade Point Average (GPA)

The method for calculating the GPA is based on allocating a mark to a grade as follows:

  • HD = 7
  • DN = 6
  • CR = 5
  • PP = 4
  • NN/AN/WN/HN = 0

The weighting of units studied is added together and divided by the total of the marks allocated to the grades (above). The result UP (Ungraded Pass) is not included in GPA calculations.

* Awards Included: Diplomas, Associate Degrees, Bachelor's Degrees, Bachelor's Degrees (Honours), Bachelor's Degrees (Professional Honours); Bachelor's Degrees (Applied Honours), Bachelor's Degrees (Clinical Honours), Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas, Master's Degrees (Coursework).

** A nested award allows a student to progress towards a Master's Degree by completing smaller qualifications, such as a Graduate Certificate and a Graduate Diploma, in a specific order. Each step builds on the previous one and provides credit towards their final qualification.

Previous recipients
